Commemorative stamp marking 550 years since Nicolaus Copernicus’ birth

Today, in the library of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, as part of the visit of the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, the promotion of the issue of commemorative postage stamps was held on the occasion of the 550th anniversary of the birth of the astronomer and mathematician Nicolaus Copernicus.

"This great anniversary is an opportunity to pay tribute to a brilliant Polish scientist, whose discoveries marked a revolutionary turning point in astronomy, to recall the existing ties between Serbia and Poland - historical, cultural, scientific, diplomatic and, above all, fraternal, and to repay and thank Poland for being a great friend of Serbia. The fruitful philatelic cooperation between the Post of Serbia and the Embassy of Poland has existed for years and has produced a postage stamp commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of world music great Frederic Chopin, a commemorative postage stamp with the image of Stanislaw Lem as part of the issue "Notable World Writers", as well as the issue that is before us today. I believe that in the coming period we will continue to strengthen our cooperation, both through new joint projects, and on Serbia's path to the European Union," said the Acting Director of the Post of Serbia, Zoran Đorđević.

Đorđević on this occasion presented a gift issue of commemorative postage stamps to H.E. Rafal Perl, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Serbia, President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Radoslav Fogel and President of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship Ana Miljanić.

The issue of commemorative postage stamps "550 years since the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus" contains a commemorative block and first day cover (FDC). The artistic realization of the issue is the work of Boban Savić, MA, academic painter and creator of stamps for the Post of Serbia, while professional cooperation was provided by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Belgrade.
