Our geniuses - Postage stamps for Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin

The Post of Serbia and the Embassy of the United States of America in Serbia presented an issue of commemorative postage stamps dedicated to Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin.

Symbolically, on the day of the 105th anniversary since the Serbian flag was flown on the White House on July 28, by order of US President Woodrow Wilson, the issue was presented by H.E. Christopher Hill, US Ambassador to Belgrade, Ivica Dačić, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, and Zoran Đorđević, Acting Director of the Post of Serbia.

The occasion for the special philatelic issue are two big jubilees - the centenary of the first publication of Mihajlo Pupin's autobiography "From Pasture to Scientist", awarded with the prestigious Pulitzer Prize, and the 125th anniversary of Tesla's first public demonstration of radio control.

Zoran Đorđević presented Ambassador Hill and Minister Dačić with a gift edition of commemorative postage stamps "Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin - our geniuses". In the philatelic issue with two commemorative postage stamps, on a sheet of eight stamps and 12 vignettes, the portraits of Tesla and Pupin are shown holding a scroll with seals bearing the national coats of arms of Serbia and the USA, while New York is illuminated in the background. The issue also includes a First Day Cover (FDC) and a commemorative seal. The artistic realization is the work of Boban Savić, MA creator of stamps for the Post of Serbia.
