Monograph honouring 100 years of the PTT Museum presented at the Book Fair

Post of Serbia presented the monographic study "Postal, technical and cultural heritage; PTT Museum in Belgrade - 100 years since its foundation (1923–2023)" at the Belgrade Book Fair. The author Ljiljana Đorđević, Senior Curator of the PTT museum, and Zoran Đorđević, Acting Director of the Post of Serbia, spoke about the work and content of the study, as well as activities and plans of the Museum.

Ljiljana Đorđević said that the monographic study provides an overall overview of the history of the creation and operation of the PTT Museum and points out the importance and wealth of collections in the field of postal, telegraphic and telephone traffic, which is of historical and cultural significance for the Republic of Serbia and its citizens.

"The most important archival materials, documents and photographs from the history of PTT traffic found a place in this study. It presents prominent personalities and important events that tell us about the rich but also interesting history of the Post and the Museum, since its establishment on July 31, 1923, with the adoption of the first Regulation on the Museum, while the exhibits have been collected in an organized manner since 1888. The Museum was opened to the public in 1958, and the new permanent exhibition was opened in 2013, and is available to visitors in the very heart of the capital, in the representative building of Momir Korunović, where it has been located since 1929," said Ljiljana Đorđević.

"Postal, telegraph and telephone traffic, as well as the introduction of all new technologies over time, brought Serbia into the family of developed countries and influenced the economic, social and cultural development of the country, as evidenced by the PTT Museum, which is among the largest and oldest technical museums in the region and all of Europe. In preparation for the anniversary, we strengthened the formal, legal and financial framework for the work of the Museum, intensified its activities, provided new exhibits and improved the protection of the Museum fund. We will continue to actively promote its valuable tradition and heritage," said Zoran Đorđević.

Đorđević reminded that in February this year, the PTT Museum was awarded for its special merits with the Medal of Sretenje of 3rd Degree by the President of the Republic.
