Post of Serbia elected for full membership in strategic body of the UPU
At the Congress of the Universal Postal Union in Dubai, the Post of Serbia was elected a full member of the Postal Operations Council, based on the votes of 100 countries that supported Serbia in extremely strong competition among the group of countries from Eastern Europe and North Asia.
This is the first time that the Republic of Serbia and the Post of Serbia have been voted into membership of the most important operational body within the Universal Postal Union, a specialized agency of the United Nations and an umbrella organization for postal policies, of which Serbia has been a member since its founding in 1874.
"This is an exceptional privilege and recognition for the state of Serbia and the Post of Serbia. It speaks of the significant progress we have achieved internationally in the postal services sector and our role and status in the European postal sector. The Post of Serbia will proactively approach the new function where we expect to make a full contribution, and seize the very important opportunity to constantly improve our own capacities and create ever better services for our customers by exchanging knowledge, experiences and good practices", said Zoran Anđelković, Acting Director of the Post of Serbia.
The Postal Operations Council plays a key role in defining the regulatory framework in the field of postal services, as well as in the field of quality improvement through financing development projects.
The election of the Post of Serbia was confirmed on September 18 during the Congress of the Universal Postal Union in the United Arab Emirates, which was also attended by a delegation from the Republic of Serbia.
