Digital Transformation of Postal Services at a Conference in Doboj
Post of Serbia participated in the 10th International Scientific Conference “New Horizons of Transport and Communications 2025” in Doboj, Republic of Srpska, organized by the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Doboj with co-organizers from 14 countries.
The Director of the Post of Serbia, Zoran Anđelković, in his address to the guests at the opening, thanked the organizers for the invitation to speak at the gathering, which he said covers extremely important topics for the future. He said that he had spent the past 30 years working in the fields of telecommunications, transport and logistics, emphasizing the importance of education and general understanding of the growing digitalization in these areas.
Anđelković presented the latest practice in the digital transformation of postal services and the implementation of advanced technologies in the Post of Serbia, which, according to him, has directed the development strategy towards innovation, digitalization, improvement of the “last mile” and the development of new services for citizens. He stated that since his arrival at the head of the Post of Serbia in May 2024, an extensive process of technological improvements and the introduction of the state-of-the-art solutions into the system and operations has been launched.
Anđelković pointed out that the Post of Serbia invested in the robotization project of the five most important postal centres, where 325 robots with a sorting capacity of 7,500 postal items per hour in Belgrade and 2,500 items per hour in the centres in Novi Sad, Niš, Kragujevac and Kraljevo were introduced into production. As he said, the goal was to enable an increase in the capacity for receiving postal items, faster and more accurate sorting, better quality of service and a faster route to end users, i.e. at least three times faster delivery to recipients. The robotic system, Anđelković explained, significantly improved the sorting technology by replacing six manual operations and emphasized that this innovation did not endanger jobs but enabled easier and simpler work for employees, as well as attracted and implemented new jobs.
“The importance of this project is also demonstrated by the Rising Star innovation award from the Association of Public Postal Operators of Europe - PostEurop, which we recently received in Tirana. At the same time, we have increased our delivery capacities by expanding the network of parcel lockers with 200 new parcel lockers that support payment, which is a new major step in the automation of services, getting us even closer to our citizens. We currently have more than 850 Post’s parcel lockers, while next year I expect that we will have twice as many”, said the Director of the Post of Serbia.
Referring to the current situation and plans for the development of environmentally friendly vehicles in the delivery fleet, Anđelković said that the Post of Serbia currently has 130 electric vehicles engaged in the delivery of postal items and that 230 new ones are expected by the end of the year, while another 350 new electric vehicles are planned for next year.
“Everything is connected to other extremely important projects that we are currently working on. We are currently providing collective mailboxes and working on the implementation of the e-delivery system in cooperation with the relevant Ministry of Information and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia. I am convinced that we will skip another decade in a digital sense during the following year, through e-delivery, modern payment methods and other innovations that we will be proud of”, concluded Director Anđelković.
The opening ceremony was addressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Doboj and the President of the Conference Organizing Committee, Prof. Dr. Miroslav Kostadinović, the President of the Programme Committee, Prof. Dr. Željko Stević, the Vice-Rector for Scientific Research from East Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Jelena Krunić, and associates from the region.
The conference “New Horizons of Transport and Communications 2025” will bring together authors, co-authors and other participants, approximately 300 participants from 40 countries from almost all continents, until November 8.
