Real estate registration under the Law on Special Conditions has begun
"Citizens have time and there is no need to rush. Registration lasts 60 days, with another 30 days for objections, and every citizen will be able to register their real estate without pressure or crowds," said Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijević during the first day of submitting applications under the Law on Special Conditions for Recording and Registration of Rights to Real Estate.
"The interest of citizens is extremely high, the first application arrived in the early morning hours, and the system has processed a large number of requests. We had a short-term slowdown, but everything has been resolved and now the registration procedure is continuing without any further problems," emphasized Minister Sofronijević.
During a tour of the Zemun main post office with the Director of the Post of Serbia, Zoran Anđelković, Minister Sofronijević spoke with employees and citizens about the process of submitting applications.
Minister Sofronijević reminded that when submitting applications, citizens bring only a minimum of documentation, while the State carries out the rest of the procedure, and added that the process is simple, clear and accessible to everyone. Citizens will submit documents, and the State will notify them when they become registered owners of their real estate.
Minister Sofronijević highlighted the security of homes and families through regulated registration of property rights, as well as zero tolerance for new illegal construction, as key goals of the law.
"We already have inspectors' decisions in the process ordering the prohibition of works, the demolition of the building and the registration of public property in favour of the Republic of Serbia," said Minister Sofronijević.
She reminded that citizens can report real estate via an electronic application, in municipalities and city administrations, as well as at 586 Post of Serbia points, noting that if necessary, more points will be opened.
"Post of Serbia is at the disposal of citizens with 586 post offices and 2,503 trained counter workers licensed by the Agency for Spatial Planning and Urbanism. Applying for legalization is simple - it is enough to bring an ID card, a document on the legal basis and show the building on the screen. Our employees provide full support to citizens and inform them about the status of the property. Post of Serbia has joined this important state project in order to facilitate the implementation and make the service available to everyone, and if necessary we are ready to include additional posts. Applications are being accepted until 5 February,” said Zoran Anđelković.
“With this Law, Serbia is for the first time fully recording all real estate and its owners. This is an important step towards an even more orderly and responsible State. We protect homes and families. The point is that people can actually own their homes,” concluded Minister Sofronijević.
