Promotion of the joint issue of postage stamps Serbia - Indonesia
A joint issue of commemorative postage stamps Serbia-Indonesia was presented today at the PTT Museum in Belgrade, implemented in cooperation with the Public Enterprise “Post of Serbia” and the Directorate General for Digital Ecosystems of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
This joint issue commemorates and celebrates the long-standing friendly relations between Serbia and Indonesia and represents a significant contribution to the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of the two countries. The commemorative postage stamps were released into circulation simultaneously in the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Indonesia on December 11, 2025.
The event was addressed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Serbia, H.E. Andreano Erwin, the Director of the Post of Serbia, Zoran Anđelković, and the Minister of Information and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia, Boris Bratina.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Serbia, H.E. Andreano Erwin, emphasized that this joint issue represents a symbolic and visible testimony to the long-standing friendship between the two countries, highlighting that the postage stamp remains a strong cultural and diplomatic symbol even in the modern digital age.
“This joint stamp is not just an object of philately, but a small ambassador that travels across borders and generations, carrying the story of the friendship between Indonesia and Serbia”, said Erwin.
The Director of the Post of Serbia, Zoran Anđelković, pointed out that in interstate relations, symbols often have a stronger and more lasting impact than formal agreements, emphasizing that postage stamps represent an important form of cultural exchange and mutual respect.
“Without symbols, there is no true progress in relations. We see this stamp as a symbol of friendship and cultural exchange between Serbia and Indonesia, which can be the foundation for even closer cooperation”, said Anđelković.
The Minister of Information and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia, Boris Bratina, assessed that joint issues of postage stamps represent one of the most beautiful forms of cultural diplomacy and an important instrument for connecting countries and peoples.
“The joint issuance of postage stamps between Serbia and Indonesia represents an exceptional opportunity to confirm and deepen the already friendly relations between the two countries. Through postage stamps, Serbia and Indonesia communicate culture, tradition and common heritage, regardless of geographical distance”, said Minister Bratina.
He recalled that this issue was included in the Plan for Issuing Commemorative Postage Stamps for 2025 by the Regulations adopted in December 2024, that a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries in the field of postal services was signed in 2025, and that the joint issue is the crowning achievement of that cooperation.
The stamps, vignettes and commemorative envelope depict authentic motifs of traditional folk attire, architecture and musical instruments of Serbia and Indonesia. Serbia is represented by folk costumes from Srem and Šumadija (19th–20th centuries), as well as a traditional cottage (“vajat”) with a porch from the village of Alin Potok, part of the Open-Air Museum “Old Village” Sirogojno. Indonesia is represented by traditional clothing of the Batak Toba people made of ulos fabric and Rumah Bolon, a traditional house of the Batak people from North Sumatra.
The issue is limited and contains two commemorative postage stamps in the form of a sheet of eight with two vignettes and one commemorative first day cover, in a circulation of 15,000 copies per stamp.
The event also included the presentation of a special gift edition, as well as a tour of the PTT Museum, followed by a cocktail party.
