Solar panels launched at the postal center in Niš

The Post of Serbia has launched solar panels at its main postal center in Niš, marking the first of five centers included in the project to transition processing hubs to renewable energy sources.

The Acting Director of the Post of Serbia, Zoran Anđelković, who put the system into operation, spoke about the project's goals, plans for further automation of operations, and the development of the postal industry. He stated that the Post of Serbia has proven its acceptance of new technologies while remaining firmly committed to aligning its operations with sustainable development standards.

"We are establishing the most advanced processing centers to be fully equipped, highly efficient, and self-sustaining. This is important for our development, modernization, and our citizens. At the same time, we are dedicated to environmental and social responsibility. By combining automation and green logistics, we are setting new standards in business, with maximum energy savings and minimal harmful impact on the environment," said Director Anđelković.

As part of a comprehensive strategy for green transition, digitalization, and the modernization of the logistics system, Anđelković particularly highlighted the ongoing modernization of the fleet with electric vehicles and, in connection with this, activities to secure their own charging infrastructure.

The postal center in Niš, covering an area of 4,500 square meters, is the most significant hub for receiving and processing shipments for southern and southeastern Serbia. In the previous year, it was among the first to be equipped with robots and was the first to start implementing them for sorting shipments. The solar panels at this center will provide complete energy from renewable sources for its operation, powering facilities and machinery, as well as charging stations for electric vehicles.

Based on the goals of the Green Agenda and in line with the strategic plan of the Post of Serbia, activities are currently underway across various phases of the project to implement solar systems at postal-logistics centers in Novi Sad, Belgrade, Jagodina, and Kraljevo. Combined with the solar systems already in use at the postal center in Kragujevac and the newly activated one in Niš, all six solar power plants will have a total capacity of 1.2 MW.
