Postage stamps marking 180 years of Post of Serbia

On February 27, the Post of Serbia will release a commemorative issue of postage stamps – “180 Years of the Post of Serbia”. The motif on this philatelic issue is the “Main Post Office” building in Takovska Street in Belgrade, which over time has become a symbol of this oldest public enterprise.

With its long tradition, the Post of Serbia represents a confirmation of the continuity of the modern Serbian state and an indicator of technological progress and modern aspirations of Serbia - from the printing of the first postage stamps in 1866, through its participation in the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in Berne in 1874, the introduction of the telegraph in 1855 and the telephone in 1883, the establishment of “Telekom Srbija” Jsc. in 1997, until the opening of the state-of-the-art regional postal and logistics centre in the Balkans in 2014 in Belgrade, with automated processing to achieve a higher level of service quality and the introduction of modern logistics services and a set of services generated from e-commerce.

“Since the opening of the first post office in Belgrade on June 7, 1840, the postal traffic in Serbia began to operate; universal postal service has been provided on a continuous basis, with prescribed quality and on equal terms for all customers. As it used to be in the tumultuous periods of history, it has been a rare pillar and ally of the people, the Post is still avaluable and irreplaceable factor in the advancement of social life and socio-economic opportunities. We provide our leadership position with the knowledge, experience and commitment of our employees, a widespread network of branches and IT connectivity throughout the world”, said Mira Petrović, Acting Director of the Post of Serbia on the occasion of the release of this commemorative issue, and added that she believes that the new era will remain remembered for additional technological innovations and new means of connection, tailored to the new age.

Its 180th year of existence the Post of Serbia begins wreathed by numerous awards and recognitions of customers (My Choice 2019 and Best Buy 2019/20), as well as the Universal Postal Union (Golden A Standard 2020) and it continues to operate as an important driving force of the market and social development.
